Remembering Alvin Walter Huba

March 14, 1940 – August 26, 2026

Portrait of Dr. Al Huba, smiling, outdoors beneath a tree.

A man without a dream is like a candle without a wick. Don’t be afraid to dream; imagine it, chase it, capture it and make it yours. You may only have that one chance in your life time, so take advantage of it.

Dr. Al HubaThe Adventures of an Alaskan Game Warden

His Life

Alvin (Al) W. Huba, 86, of Leesburg, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2026.

Al was born March 14, 1940, in Butler, Pennsylvania, to Alvin Sr. and Anne Huba. From a young age, he felt the pull of wide-open spaces and wild country, a calling that would shape the entire course of his life. In 1966, he answered that call and moved to Alaska to become a game warden, spending his days protecting the land and wildlife he loved so deeply. He later put his rugged determination to work on the Alaska pipeline, laboring through the harsh, unforgiving conditions of the North Slope in Prudhoe Bay. These experiences became one of the defining chapters of his life and provided stories he loved to tell for decades after. In time, Al felt a different kind of calling, transitioning from the wilderness into ministry, where he devoted himself to pastoring and family counseling. He went on to earn his PhD in 1993.

In 1983, he married the love of his life, Brenda, and together they raised five children. Al is survived by his six children, Virginia, Jennifer, Aaron, Josh, Allison, and David; his grandson, Conner; and his stepdaughter, Azuree.

Al was a natural storyteller, always ready with a dad-joke whether you wanted one or not. He was just as happy duffing around the golf course as he was tending to his garden. A devoted, lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, he had a special fondness for Jerome “The Bus” Bettis and never passed up an opportunity to do a Myron Cope or Bill Cowher impression. Writing was another gift he carried throughout his life. He published books and crafted sermons for the congregations he served, using his words to teach, encourage, and connect.

Above all, Al was a man of deep faith, committed to walking with Jesus and living that faith out in how he loved his family and served his community.

Al will be remembered for his humor, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and a life well-lived in the beauty of God’s creation.

I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,

I never had the privilege of knowing Al but have known Jennifer for years as a co-worker who has to be one of the most wonderful persons I know and whose values and care for others I'm sure are as a result of the man and father Al was to his children and family. My condolences to the family on your loss.

So sorry, I missed my best friend in the Lord a lot on this planet but had a wonderful hope to see my wonderful brother/friend and trusted co-labourer in the vineyard of the Lord some day with Lord’s coming.

    My journey with brother Al:

I met him along with brother John Irvin of Harrisburg PA who was a good friend of Dr. Al in the year 1999 in Butler PA. From that day onwards we have been friends and brothers in the expansion of the Lord’s kingdom.

In the year 2001 him and his beloved wife Brenda visited us in India and did a wonderful ministry in different villages and preached the gospel of Christ. He trained hundreds of pastors for the work of God. I and Helen did visit them several times in Butler PA and in Florida too. They gave us such a lovely hospitality and we experienced their awesome love and enthusiasm and we were very much encouraged to go further in the ministry of the Lord.

They were with us for two weeks in India and ministered to different walks of poor and needy in many rural villages. Ofcourse, It was a hard time for them to live in such rural areas where there’s no electricity, no air conditioning but they did get through every hard situation. They even slept on the floor during nights. Him and Brenda took such hardships and reached thousands of people with the love of Christ.

He loved me and Helen very much and the pastors of Dawn Ministries, Hyderabad India a lot and I have no words to express my love and gratitude to the wonderful man of God Dr Al Huba.

Our prayers shall go along with the family that the Lord may give them the peace that understanding and comfort them in this hour of hardship. Please extend our love with Brenda and the family.

He faught a good fight for the Lord and kept his faith. He went to the Lord to receive his gift “ the of righteousness “ .

May the Lord bless and comfort with peace his wife Brenda and his sons and daughters as well

    In His everlasting love

Brother Peter and Helen Silumula from India

Dear Sister Brenda and the Huba Family,
Helen and I, along with the entire pastoral team at Dawn Ministries in Hyderabad, India, are grieving the loss of our dearest mentor, brother, and a true Barnabas in the vineyard of the Lord. At the same time, we rejoice knowing he has gone to the Lord to claim his "Crown of Righteousness."
Our wonderful journey with Dr. Al and Sister Brenda spanned over 27 beautiful years. I still vividly remember meeting Dr. Al for the first time in 1999 at his residence in Butler, Pennsylvania, alongside Brother John Irvin.
In 2001, Dr. Al and his beloved wife, Brenda, traveled to Hyderabad, India. For two weeks, they tirelessly ministered in rural villages and remote areas. Dr. Al shared the love of Christ with hundreds of the poor and needy, preaching in gospel crusades and touching countless hearts. Through his powerful teachings, many came to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He also poured his heart into pastoral seminars, retreats, and training sessions, leaving a lasting impact on our local leadership.
Beyond his visits, Dr. Al faithfully mentored Helen and me every single month through his "Love Letters." We, the pastors of Dawn Ministries, were profoundly blessed by his steady wisdom, guidance, and encouragement. We are eternally grateful to Dr. Al and Brenda for investing so much of their lives into the Kingdom of God here in India.
We will deeply miss our beloved mentor. Our prayers are with Sister Brenda and the entire family. May the Lord grant you the peace that passes all understanding and comfort you completely in Christ Jesus.
With our deepest love and prayers,
    Pastor Peter & Helen Silumula

Dr Al was my friend, my confidant and my Counselor. We shared 20 years of friendship and many times of dining together. Al and Brenda graced our home in Jamaica with their presence and warm fellowship. Joan Michaela and I were always welcomed. I am missing my friend so much, my tears keep flowing. Al and Brenda was a tower of strength to me when my wife Joan passed on last year. I am praying that God will strengthen you Brenda, and your kids. All my love. Shalom

He also had compassion and empathy for the homeless. I often remember dinners with him and Brenda, and him talking about his latest outreach to them. I am sure he will have many crowns in heaven.

There are 2 words to describe Al: SHABABA DUDE. To have Doc cross your journy path is like having a banana split ice cream sundae with extra chocolte syrup... giggle! He added something special to the souls he crossed paths with... He will be missed.

The best part of my life in Alaska involved Al and Brenda and the kids. Your family was an extension of ours my entire childhood-and I love you all dearly! Not only was Al a great man of God, he was a good friend to our family, and always showed loved to those around him. Al actually did keep in touch with me over the years, we would discuss scripture and talk about how our family was doing, and I felt heard and loved and will never forget that. He will very much be missed!
With so much love for you guys.- Amy

We had several opportunities to enjoy fellowship with Doc as we mainly knew him by. Always friendly and kind. Also always quick-witted and very aware of current events and Biblical implications for applications to our lives. Was blessed the times I joined the intercessory prayer group in the mornings to gather on the internet and lift up many needs and encourage one another. May Brenda and his family have the comfort of our Lord. Blessings

My ex husband and I met Al in Alaska in the late sixties early seventies. Fred Pahler and Al were hunting, fishing buddies. We spent many an Alaskan night with card games. Our favorite for all four of us was "snerts".
Sadden and surprise to hear this news if his passing.
Perhaps him and Fred can hunt and fish in the hereafter?
What a surprise it was to accidentally run into him and his wife Brenda three years ago at a Veterans function in Leesburg, Florida!! I had moved to Florida in 2006.
Last time I physically saw Al was in 1971.
Fifty years ago, and from Alaska to Florida, who would have thought?????

I'm so sad to get this news...but sadness gives way to joy at the thought of our beloved PST Al going to his home in glory. Thank you for the times you've been there for me and PST Chris and for all the love and acceptance for this South African girlie. Good night and I'm blessed to have known you.
